Adefolake: What Honey did to my Face! Revised Version

What Honey did to my Face, when I started my weight loss plan, it was going well until I noticed I started having breakouts (develops when the pores in the skin become clogged with dead skin cells and oil).

This initially bothered me but I was too invested in my weight loss plan that I did not mind this side effect.

After much deliberation on what to do, I decided to start using a particular “organic” soap to wash my face…one of the biggest mistakes I made in 2019.

My face went from bad to worst very quickly. Nigerians in their normal habit started making unwanted comments which I knew was mostly from a place of love, well..maybe a few haters.

Now I had visible pimples on my face and my bad habit of squeezing or scrubbing at the blackheads only made them worse. Soon after, my face was filled with blackheads, pimples and a lot of rough patches.

Now I was really worried. It took me awhile but I realized the “organic soap” was not helping matters and I stopped.

Then I tried facial scrub and an organic shower gel for a short while and I am yet to decide which was worse between these two and the soap because now a lot of people started asking questions.

Usually I put makeup only for functions, so on a regular day you will catch me in the mall or at work with my bare face.

This was becoming more and more difficult to do as those that knew my smooth baby-bum face often expressed their shock when they saw my new face. I could not stop my diet, not after coming this far; I was getting close to my target weight.

Matters worse, office duties increased and I was on the road and air more often than usual which increased my stress levels thereby increasing the pimples and blackheads on my face.

A close friend told me my face was fragile and I should not use anything on it, so I stopped using the facial scrub and everything entirely and had finally given up.

A day before I discovered the magic of honey I had told a close colleague about how I had given up. The next day, as I watched TV and decided to just google “Natural products for blackheads”. Voila!!! There it was….HONEY!

The first few days I tried to combine honey and aloe vera from the garden but soon after dumped the aloe vera when I noticed honey was the one performing the magic.

As I researched further, I was astonished to see the benefits of Honey. This is something I never used because I prefer sugar but yet had incredible benefits. According to Healthline,

“Using raw honey on your face can work as a treatment for acne, scarring, and dull or dry skin.”

Standard Media says it better, “When applied on your face, honey opens up your skin pores to cleanse them and get rid of black heads. Its antioxidants, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties allow it to help you fight acne by keeping your pores free of oily dirt while at the same time keeping them hydrated and tight to give your clearer complexion.”

Not only are the blackheads clearing rapidly, my face feels firmer, smoother, cleaner and my original complexion is back! The amazing thing is honey has so many other benefits that I cannot begin to highlight but it is my favourite facial natural product right now.

My Routine:

  1. I clean my face with facial wipes to get the particulate matter out of the way for the honey to do its work (only at night) .
  2. Then I apply locally processed honey round my face and pay special attention to areas where I still have blackheads.
  3. Leave it for about 20 – 30 minutes.
  4. Rinse gently with warm water and dry with face towel.
  5. Repeat twice a day to get the best results.
  6. Then once a week, I use Apricot facial scrub for my weekly deep cleansing.

I encourage everyone to try it and I would love to get feedback!
